About the Project

In 2024, our agency was approached by clients – the owners of Fishmak, an online fishing equipment store. Their request was to promote their business online and improve their reputation and brand recognition. In particular, at the briefing we revealed that they were particularly interested in improving the position of certain categories of the site pages in the search engines, expanding the semantic core by selecting various types of keywords, and increasing the inflow of new customers through the site. Let’s take a look at how we implemented their request and what results we achieved at each stage.

Project Introduction

Fishmak is a new online fishing equipment store launching in 2024. The target audience is anglers from the US who prefer to shop online. Initial briefing with customers revealed that the main types of products are fishing reels, rods, and baits/lures, and the main philosophy of the project is quality gear at affordable prices for anglers of all levels.

At the start of the project, the website had an average of 5 visits per day.

MAIN STAGES OF WORK AND RESULTS

In August 2024, our team of SEO specialists began working on the Fishmak project. In the first month, our team focused on analysing the site in detail and choosing a strategy for promotion. This includes:

  • Website audit: analysing technical indicators (page load speed/identifying 404 and other errors/presence of a sitemap/checking page indexing/mobile adaptability, and so on), SEO characteristics (quality of content/presence of links between pages/headings H1-H3, navigation on the site, and so on), user experience (ease of navigation/functionality of the buttons and interactive elements/relevance of design) and so on;

  • Competitor analysis: identification of direct/indirect competitors in the segment of fishing equipment stores, which rank in the top positions for key relevant queries, analysing the structure and content of their sites, identifying the pages that bring the most traffic, determining SEO indicators and their strategy, the profile of their target audience, etc;

  • Search for new ideas to attract targeted organic traffic to the site: identification of promising queries with low competition and unoccupied niches (for example, cheap baitcasting rods, specific baits for particular types of fish), creation of unique sales offers (selection of sets of fishing equipment for specific conditions, seasonal promotions, etc.), increasing customer loyalty by creating an informational blog for beginners with advice from professional fishermen;

  • Analysing the requested profile: to create a quality link strategy, we analysed top fishing gear online shops and audited external links, assessed their quantity/quality, and identified spammy links that negatively affect SEO indicators. Also, we found suitable sites for placing links.

AUGUST

In September 2024, our team began making specific changes to the site and implementing targeted promotion strategies:

  • Fixing errors identified during the audit: removing spammy links, eliminating technical errors, and more;

  • Working with content: creating a semantic core that includes short-tail, long-tail, and other keywords LSI, writing optimised articles and product descriptions for priority categories and submitting them to the customer for review;

  • Developing a blog dedicated to angling and fishing equipment: creating the semantic core, planning articles, writing Titles/Descriptions, and producing informative articles;

  • Starting a campaign to get external links.

SEPTEMBER

In October 2024 we continued developing the blog as it was showing good results in attracting new visitors. We regularly published new SEO-optimised articles and expanded the semantic core. We also continued working with text content for new pages and subcategories of fishing equipment. In addition, this month we optimised menus to improve navigation on the platform, and focused on link building. We are placing links in online directories/aggregators, angling forums, and more.
Significant expansion of the menu and addition of new subcategories of the site with a potentially high level of organic traffic gave a significant increase in clicks, which can be seen on the graph:

Between November and December 2024, we added new promotion methods to our work with the blog, content preparation and creation for the blog and new pages, and link building:

  • Working with meta tags, according to the new menu, and improving product descriptions in terms of optimisation;
  • Prepared a filter structure based on competitive analysis. This measure is aimed at increasing the convenience of visitors so that they can find certain products more easily.

The use of such tactics also increased the number of visitors. Comparing the performance over the past two months with the previous period shows that the applied strategy was successful.
